Athletic Bilbao secured their first win in La Liga this season after narrowly beating Almeria 1-0 on Sunday. The victory was achieved thanks to a powerful strike from the penalty spot, which proved decisive in the match.

Almeria goalkeeper Francisco Pena made a save on a shot from Iago Aspas but the rebound fell kindly to the feet of Diego Godin, who slotted home the equalizer moments later.
In the second half, Athletic Bilbao continued to dominate possession and create chances, but they were unable to find the back of the net. It was only in the final stages of the match that Athletic Bilbao's efforts paid off as they struck again.
A cross from the left flank found Jesus Navas, who headed the ball towards goal. The Almeria defender managed to block the shot, but the rebound fell kindly to Iago Aspas, who fired home the winning goal from close range.
Despite the narrow victory, Athletic Bilbao will be pleased with their performance against a tough opponent. They have now won just one of their opening five games in La Liga, but they remain in contention for a top-half finish.
